What's Happening on the Farm Now?
This space will be added to (hopefully) frequently as things happen on the farm. Originally we used this format, later changing to Blog posting and even later moving current events to Farm Facebook posts. We've become increasingly frustrated with facebook and now have switched back to our original scheme of posting current farm happenings here.
| June 15, 2026 | Weaning of the first kids of the year | |
|
We weaned the first five kids born this year. We normally wean shortly after 3 months of age, but these went a bit longer. Weaning was becoming important as there was an intact buck kid in the group who needed to be weaned before he became "live"
First step in weaning is to capture the doe herd with kids in the barn so the weanlings can be removed. |

Kids to be weaned are caught, get a quick check over for condition and a hoof trim and then are placed in a separate area for two to three weeks. Then, doe and wether kids are returned to the herd. Intact buck kids must go elsewhere. |
